We, leaders of several religious traditions have come together to encourage you, our religious communities to engage in prayer for peace in the Middle East at this time of heightened tensions with Iran.
We ask you to:
1. Take time in your personal and communal prayer and as you gather with your faith community for religious observances to pray for peace. We also encourage you to engage with other religious communities in your neighborhood in events offering a joint witness to peace.
We will post prayers, litanies, scripture texts, hymns and other prayer aids on this web site.
2. We also encourage you to send us prayers/scripture texts/ litanies/ hymns/ poems and other resources including new and creative liturgical material to post on this web site for others to use.
3. Organize joint events of witness for peace in your community and announce them on this website. Participate in actions such as writing to legislators as appropriate.
4. Send us stories and pictures of community events for posting on this website so that they might become an encouragement to others.
As religious leaders we are deeply concerned about the potential for violent confrontation with Iran. Just as we pray for wisdom for our president and other political leaders, we also pray for the president and other religious/political leaders of Iran. Just as we pray for ourselves that we are able to live in peace, we pray for the people of Iran who also desire peace. We pray that through dialogue and diplomatic channels there might be a way to resolving this crisis.
Pray like everything depends on God Work like everything depends on you.
